Award Winners at SWIFF’23

SWIFF'23 is home to incredible world cinema, some of which has won big at festivals ceremonies around the globe. Here are the big winners we don't want you to miss.

SHADOW

This film adaptation of renowned theatre company Back to Back’s sci-fi drama Shadow took out the Audience Award in the Visions section at SXSW. 

BAD BOY BUBBY

Rolf de Heer’s cult classic won a slew of awards across several festivals, including several AACTAs (When it was still known as the Australian Film Institute),  and the Grand Special Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival in 1993.

THE TRACKER

Speaking of Rolf, The Tracker starring the late David Gulpilil also took out awards across the globe. including the SIGNIS Award at Venice in 2002. 

A HOUSE MADE OF SPLINTERS

This intimate observational doc from the heart of a Ukrainian children’s home earned director Simon Lereng Wilmont a Directing Award from Sundance, and an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary. 

FIRE OF LOVE

Breathtaking, grand, and just a little bit hot,  this larger-than-life love story earned over 20 awards from festivals around the globe, and is also nominated for the Best Documentary Oscar this year. 

ALL THE BEAUTY AND THE BLOODSHED

This peek into the life of artist and activist Nan Goldin, and her fight against pharma giants the Sackler family has earned it’s fair share of awards, including the Golden Lion from Venice.

Paul Mescal might win oscar, make good words if happens 

ALCARRÀS

Heartwarming and visually gorgeous, Alcarràs took out the Golden Berlin Bear at Berlinale  in 2022, as well as 15 other awards around the globe.
