Films for Youth at SWIFF’23

The magic of cinema is here to be enjoyed by everyone, and this year SWIFF has put a special focus on those films and events at the festival that can be enjoyed by the whole family – no matter the age. With people under 25 getting tickets to regular sessions for just $10,  there’s no reason to not book a few films at SWIFF this year.

NEXTWAVE YOUTH FILM AWARDS

SAT 22 APR · 2PM FOR 3PM · CHEC

A favourite event of the SWIFF team and a fantastic experience for the whole family every year, NYFA celebrates the most creative, cutting-edge, and brightest short films made by young Australians from across the country for the Nextwave Youth Short Film Competition.

Young filmmakers and their families will join  us from all over to watch the finalist films, and maybe even win some fantastic prizes.  This is an all-ages event, and we encourage everyone to buy a ticket and come along.

ALON ILSAR'S TRAVELLING AIRSTICKS LABORATORY

An interactive show mixing cutting edge technology with crazy, musical fun that is good for even the littlest SWIFF fan.

KEEP STEPPING

A fascinating look at the ultra-competitive Sydney street-dance scene as seen from the inside. There will be a Q&A following the film with the director, and a performance by one of the dancers in the film. Appropriate for all ages, but may be of most interest to 12+.

MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON

A little shell with a big personality on the hunt for his family, a colony of shells that disappeared presented in a pseudo-documentary style, Marcel the Shell With Shoes On is one of those rare films that will entertain everyone, no matter the age.

OF AN AGE

Achingly romantic and tapping into the current ’90s nostalgia trend, Of An Age is a queer coming-of-age story set in 1999 Melbourne, with some of the most gorgeous dance scenes you’ll see all year. This one is best suited to 15+.
