SWIFF Partners With SSI to Present Homelands

SWIFF is proud to be supporting the Homelands Arts Tour 2021, brought to you by Settlement Services International (SSI) at the Coffs Harbour Education Campus (CHEC) on Thursday, June 24.

The screening event, hosted at CHEC’s O Block Theatre from 6pm and MC’d by SWIFF’s Festival Co-Director Dave Horsley, is FREE to attend, but has limited tickets available. First in, best dressed. Refreshments provided.

Touring from Sydney, Homelands 2021 presents ‘Beyond Refuge: Dialogues’ – a 50-minute exhibition of film and photography works created by six artists from refugee backgrounds. Beyond Refuge was produced by arts organisation CuriousWorks in collaboration with SSI and other migrant and refugee support organisations.

“At it’s heart, film is about seeing the world through the perspectives of others. Homelands provides us that opportunity through the lens of Australia’s most recent newcomers – our culturally-vibrant refugee community”, – Dave Horsley

Homelands aims to raise awareness and understanding of refugee experiences through cinematic exhibition and Q&A, bringing artists and communities together in creative and meaningful ways that promote social cohesion and unity.

The ‘Beyond Refuge’ screening is a series of captivating and poignant cinema poems and photo-stories produced by CuriousWorks, created by six Sydney based artists who share the asylum seeker and refugee experience.

The program includes:

Calendar – directed by Ali Al Azeez
New home, New hopes – created by Elham BehinAein
My name is Mohamed and Raghad. We don’t exist here anymore – directed by Ali Mousawi
El Baile – directed by Daisy Montalvo
Trinity – directed by Samia Halabi
Flashback – directed by Sean Ly

Plus, Q&A with award-winning filmmakers Ali Al Azeez and Daisy Montalvo.

The Beyond Refuge special screening will take place on the 24th of June from 6pm, in celebration of Refugee Week 2021 at Coffs Harbour Education Campus CHEC.
